Project Updates:

July 22, 2025: Lane Closure Scheduled for Eastbound Interstate 90 Over Interstate 229 in Sioux Falls

Beginning on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the Interstate 90 eastbound passing lane on the bridge over Interstate 229 in Sioux Falls will be temporarily closed. The closure is needed for crews to place asphalt surfacing and install guardrail. 

This work is anticipated to be completed and the eastbound I-90 passing lane reopened by Thursday, July 31, 2025.

July 18, 2025: 

June 15, 2025 – July 15, 2025, Completed Work: 

Westbound I-90 bridge over I-229 

Work is complete and traffic restored.  The north loop ramps are open 

Westbound I-90 bridge over I-29 

Two-way traffic is currently in place on eastbound I-90 to allow for work.  The north loop ramps are currently closed at the interchange 

The contractor is currently working on removing delaminated concrete on the bridge deck. 

Anticipated work July 15, 2025 – Aug. 15, 2025: 

Westbound I-90 bridge over I-29 

The contractor plans to complete the approach slabs, all concrete paving, asphalt shoulders, guardrail, and membrane seals for the westbound I-90 structure over I-29. Once these items are complete, they will open to traffic including the north loop ramps. Remaining work may include lane closures. 

July 8, 2025 - Press Release:

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, work will begin on the Interstate 90 westbound structure over Interstate 29. Traffic control will be put into place to allow for a two-way traffic configuration on eastbound I-90 utilizing crossovers. The north loop ramps of the I-90 and I-29 interchange will be closed during this time.  

This two-way traffic configuration is anticipated to be in place until Friday, Aug. 15, 2025.
