Named for a Fort Pierre war hero, the new $50 million version of the Lt. Cmdr. John C. Waldron Bridge over the Missouri River between Pierre and Fort Pierre is built to last for 100 years, officials said during a ribbon cutting on Tuesday.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) has announced that grading work will begin on S.D. Highway 28 near Estelline on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. The project will cover the stretch of Highway 28 from Estelline east to the S.D. Highway 15 north junction. According to the SDDOT, the grading work is scheduled to take place west of Interstate 29 from April to August 2025 and east of I-29 from August to November 2025. The timeframe is subject to change due to weather conditions.
