KKRC Radio: South Dakota Kids Get Creative with Snowplow Names

Harsh winter weather is a cold, hard reality in South Dakota, but that isn't stopping people from around the state from having some fun with the snowy season.
For the sixth straight year, the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) has turned to residents of the Mount Rushmore State to put their 'creative hats' on for the annual Snowplow Naming Contest.
Nominations flooded in from people of all ages from across the state, and in the end, it was up to the SDDOT staff to select the winning names from 12 different regions.
“2025-2026 Snowplow Naming Contest Winners:
- Aberdeen Area - lceorilla
- Belle Fourche Area - Rhinestone Plowboy
- Custer Area - Sleddy Roosevelt
- Huron Area - Cutting Edge Express
- Mitchell Area - Plowverine
- Mobridge Area - Whiteout Warrior
- Pierre Area - Buzz Ice Clear
- Rapid City Area - Mount Slush NO More
- Sioux Falls Area - Frost Force One
- Winner Area - Scoopy Scoopy Doo
- Watertown Area - Scraping By
- Yankton Area - Stormin Norman
Four of the winning entries were submitted by elementary classrooms within the communities of Aberdeen, Hill City, Armour, and McIntosh. Preschoolers in Jones County were responsible for the Winner Area pick “Scoopy Scoopy Doo”, while staff at Lantis Enterprises in Spearfish submitted the winning name of “Rhinestone Plowboy” for the Belle Fourche Area.
