SDDOT to Host Open House in Miller - Roads and Bridges

On Tuesday, April 8, the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will host an open house meeting to discuss two projects in the Miller area (Miller is the seat of Hand County).

According to a press release from SDDOT, the department wants public input on the S.D. Highway 45 Reconstruction Project and the U.S. Highway 14 Traffic Study. After a presentation, there will be a discussion with the design staff.

S.D. Highway 45 Reconstruction Project

This project will improve a 12-mile stretch of Highway 45, from the Highway 14/45 junction in Miller to 208th Street. Planned improvements include:

  • Full roadway reconstruction,
  • Drainage upgrades,
  • Safety enhancements.

SDDOT representatives will be available to discuss project details, timelines, land acquisition and relocation assistance.

U.S. Highway 14 Traffic Study

The study evaluates current and future traffic patterns along a two-mile section of Highway 14, from the Highway 14/45 junction to East 8th Avenue in Miller. Key focus areas include:

  • Traffic flow analysis,
  • Safety improvements,
  • Potential upgrades to intersections and pedestrian crossings.

Why This Matters

Time and time again, community involvement has proven to be an indication of success. When Roads & Bridges names its Top 10 Road and Bridge projects of the year, most of the winning projects include a section in the submission that outlines how the community was vital to the project’s success.

Public support and public knowledge of a road project leads to safer work zones, as well.
