South Dakota’s expanded ‘Move Over’ law takes effect today

South Dakota’s updated ‘Move Over’ law requiring motorists to move over for ANY VEHICLE on the side of the road with flashing amber, yellow or blue warning or hazard lights goes into effect Tuesday (July 1, 2025). State Department of Transportation Director of Operations Craig Smith says the new law applies to vehicles whether they are moving slowly or stopped. Smith says DOT frequently has crews doing work along the shoulder of a road and people do need to slow down when going by.
