When will the traffic signals be fixed off exit 59 on North Lacrosse Street? KOTA
Watch the story here: When will the traffic signals be fixed off exit 59 on North Lacrosse Street?
Nobody ever wants to find themselves in a traffic jam due to traffic signals going out, which is why people in Rapid City may be wondering when traffic signals off exit 59 on North Lacrosse Street will have power again.
For the last several weeks, there have been traffic restrictions in that area due to the traffic signals going out.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation’s region operations engineer, Tom Horan, said the issue occurred due to an electrical conduit getting crushed, resulting in the control box going down.
Since Aug. 21, DOT crews have been replacing the signal equipment and thousands of feet of wire.
In the meantime, the department put up stop signs to manage traffic in the area.
“Surprisingly, the stop signs are working very well,” said Horan. “We’ve had very little complaint from the public. I think I’ve fielded two calls and both people were just inquiring as to what was going on up there.”
Horan said the old conduit has been replaced.
He added this is the first time he has dealt with a situation in which a traffic conduit broke.
Horan said the repairs should be done by the week of Sept. 15, 2025.
