Asphalt Crack Sealing Scheduled to Begin in Southwest South Dakota

CUSTER, S.D. – On Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, crews will begin asphalt crack sealing operations on three routes in southwest South Dakota.

The contractor will move from one project to the next in the following order:

  • U.S. Highway 16A — Project will run through the town of Keystone.  
  • S.D. Highway 36 — Project will begin at the east entrance of Custer State Park and end in Hermosa.  
  • S.D. Highway 79 North — Project will begin in Buffalo Gap and end in Hermosa.

The operations on Highway 36 will utilize flaggers to guide motorists through the work zone. The operations on Highway 16A and Highway 79 North will have lane closures in place for the duration of the project.

The prime contractor on this $100,000 project is Roadway Services, Inc. of Fargo, ND. The overall completion date for this project is Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023.
