Ramp Reconstruction Work Scheduled on Interstate 90 Near Vivian

VIVIAN, S.D. – On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, work is scheduled to begin on the eastbound and westbound ramps at exit 214 on Interstate 90 east of Vivian. Work will also begin on the crossroad leading to S.D. Highway 248 at this same location. Project work will consist of removal of the existing asphalt and granular base followed by heavy roadway shaping in this area. New base material and asphalt will be placed on the newly finished grade.

This grading work will create a nearly impassable driving surface. Motorists should be aware that the eastbound and westbound ramps at exit 214 near Vivian and the crossroad to Highway 248 will be closed to traffic for approximately four weeks.

Work is then scheduled to begin at the crossroad leading to Highway 248 at exit 208 on I-90. Project work at this location will consist of removal of the existing base, reshaping the base, and placement of asphalt concrete. The work at exit 208 and the crossroad to Highway 248 will remain open at all times with traffic controlled by flaggers.  

The grading project work is expected to be completed in June of 2025. The prime contractor for this $2.7 million construction project is Bituminous Paving, Inc. of Ortonville, MN.  The overall project completion date is Nov. 7, 2025.
