Canton - U.S. Highway 18 to Interstate 29

Project Summary:

Located east of Interstate 29 at exit 62, U.S. Highway 18 connects the city of Canton to Interstate 29 with a two-lane undivided rural highway. This stretch of Highway 18 has shown increased traffic volumes in which the current two-lane highway is reaching capacity. This eight-mile segment will be reconstructed with a four-lane divided highway to accommodate the increased traffic volumes. Additionally, this project includes the replacement of existing box culverts which are sized appropriately based on watershed information.

The project includes grading, curb and gutter, storm sewer, box culvert replacement, lighting, permanent signing, pavement marking, and surfacing.

July 18, 2025:

June 15, 2025 – July 15, 2025, Completed Work: The contractor has completed several tasks towards finishing the project. Ditches have been worked to finish grade along the project for drainage. Curb and gutter along the median has been completed. Asphalt shoulders along the outside of the new concrete pavement has been completed. Progress has begun on finishing the colored concrete median

Anticipated work July 15, 2025 – Aug. 15, 2025: Colored concrete median work will continue along the inside of the new concrete lanes. Work will progress along the median for the rest of the month and is the final large task towards completion.
