Project Updates:

Nov. 24, 2025:

Oct. 15, 2025 – Nov. 15, 2025 Completed Work: All remaining areas of U.S. Highway 212 west of the James River bridge have been reconstructed and regraded. Interim chip-sealed surfacing has been applied to all five miles of U.S. 212, along with striping, signing, and final erosion control measures. The 2025 construction season’s work is complete, and the highway is open to traffic.

Anticipated Work Nov. 15, 2025 – Dec. 15, 2025: No additional work is planned on U.S. 212 this season aside from any incidental or maintenance activities that may arise during winter travel, maintenance, or snow removal operations. U.S. 212 will remain fully open until the interim surfacing is replaced with final asphalt paving from 1.5 miles west of the James River bridge to Doland in spring/summer 2026. Travelers should monitor SD511 for updates as contractor schedules are finalized.

Nov. 17, 2025 - Press Release:

As of 12 p.m. (noon) on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, U.S. Highway 212, from five miles east of Redfield to east of Frankfort, has been reopened to all traffic. Motorists should be aware that there is an interim asphalt surface treatment through the work area. A reduced speed limit of 55 miles per hour is in place. Both the car and truck detours around the project have been removed. 

Paving operations on this project are scheduled to begin in 2026.
