July 22, 2025:
Starting Wednesday, July 23 through Friday, July 25, 2025, the Interstate 29 southbound off-ramp at exit 78 (26th Street) will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The closure is needed for the contractor to mobilize equipment safely into the work zone as they continue work on the easternmost lanes.
Motorists are advised to be aware of slowing and stopped traffic on northbound and southbound Interstate 29 from exit 79 (12th Street) to exit 78 (26th Street) during the peak travel times of 7-8 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.

July 10, 2025 - Press Release
On Monday, July 21, 2025, work is scheduled to begin on the Interstate 29 southbound structures over 12th Street and the Ellis and Eastern Railroad tracks in Sioux Falls.
Motorists should be aware that the easternmost two lanes of southbound I-29 will be closed, and traffic will be maintained in the westernmost two lanes. This traffic configuration is anticipated to be in place until Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, then traffic will be switched to the newly constructed east lanes. Work will then begin in the west two lanes at this location.

July 8, 2025 - Press Release
On Thursday, July 10, 2025, a traffic switch is scheduled to take place on southbound Interstate 29 on the bridge over Skunk Creek in Sioux Falls. Traffic will be placed in the two easternmost lanes to allow for crews to complete work in the two westernmost lanes.
This traffic configuration is anticipated to be in place until Friday, Aug. 15, 2025. Once work is complete, traffic will be restored to its traditional configuration.

June 16, 2025:
Weather dependent, the northbound Interstate 29 on-ramp at 26th Street will be reopened either Tuesday, June 17 or Wednesday, June 18, 2025. As structure work continues, northbound traffic on I-29 over the Skunk Creek Bridge will be switched and maintained in the two east lanes. Traffic is anticipated to be in this configuration through mid-July 2025, to allow for work in the west lanes. Once work is complete, traffic will be restored to their respective lanes.
June 12, 2025:
Sioux Falls, S.D. – On Monday, June 16, 2025, the northbound Interstate 29 on-ramp at 26th Street will be reopened. As structure work continues, northbound traffic on I-29 over the Skunk Creek Bridge will be switched and maintained in the two east lanes. Traffic is anticipated to be in this configuration until Wednesday, July 16, 2025, to allow for work completion in the two west lanes. Once work is complete, traffic will be restored to their respective lanes.
The prime contractor for this $7.4 million project is General Excavating, LLC. of Lincoln, NE. The overall completion date for the project is July 2025.
